ISHS Acta Horticulturae 487: VI International Symposium on Processing Tomato & Workshop on Irrigation & Fertigation of Processing Tomato

INFLUENCE OF HERBICIDE AND STARTER FERTILIZER MANAGEMENT ON TRANSPLANTED TOMATOES

Author:   G. Miyao
Keywords:   Solanum nigrum, trifluralin, metribuzin
Abstract:
Field evaluations of herbicides and starter fertilizers were conducted in commercial tomato fields near Woodland, California, as two separate tests. Herbicide evaluations compared trifluralin rates of 0.28, 0.56 and 1.12 kg active ingredient per hectare as a broadcast, preplant incorporated treatment. Metribuzin treatments applied as a broadcast, unshielded spray at 0.56 kg active ingredient per hectare compared 3 application timing windows: 1) pre-plant incorporation, 2) post-plant, prior to initial overhead irrigation and 3) post-emergent to weeds after transplants were well established. Weed control, crop growth, and marketable fruit yield were evaluated.
