Abstract:
Spraying with detergents and insecticides against the spiralling whiteflies in the gardens of the Canary Islands has shown low efficacy and irregular results. To solve the problem various pesticides of low toxicity to beneficial insects and human beings were tested, among them the patented Hungarian products Vektafid A 1% Vektafid R 1%, Bio-Sect 2% and Tiosol 1%. The trials were carried out under laboratory, semi-field and field conditions on palms and other ornamental plants. It can be concluded from the results that the environmentally friendly products, especially Vektafid A and Bio-Sect, tested in the trials can be successfully applied for the control of spiralling whiteflies. Detailed data are shown in this paper. These trials were conducted in the frame of the Spanish- Hungarian Joint Research Programme.
