Abstract:
Yugoslavia is exceptionally rich in natural populations of walnuts.
Long-term work on clonal selection at the Fruit Research Centre, Cacak, focused on heavy and regular cropping, combined with high kernel percentage, good quality, late leafing to avoid spring frosts, and resistance to pests and diseases, and also on types with lateral bearing habit.
Over five years (1990–1995) many interesting walnut types were selected including: type 1/90 (nut weight 9.38g and kernel percentage 46.4%); type 3/92 (11.6g, 56.2%); type 16/93 (14.3g, 53.7%); type 22/94 (13.8g, 54.4%); and type 5/95 (10.7g, 52.2%).
