Abstract:
Some new clonal stone-fruit rootstocks have been released recently in Hungary. ‘Feher Besztercei’, a local plum (Prunus domestica) variety, is a semi-dwarfing rootstock for apricot.
Tree size on this rootstock is 35–40% smaller and productivity 20% greater than on apricot seedling.
This rootstock is suitable for fresh soils with good water holding capacity.
Then there are three interspecific hybrid roostocks, all compatible with peach and almond. ‘PeMa’ is a cross between P. persica ‘Mezokomaromi’ and P. persica var. amara. ‘PeDa’ is an open pollinated seedling of a hybrid of P. persica x P. davidiana. Cadaman® ‘Avimag’, a cross of P. persica ‘Champion’ x P. davidiana is a Hungarian-French joint release.
All three make vigorous, productive trees in the orchard and tree losses to apoplexy are low.
They tolerate dry, calcareous soils, and are not susceptible to chlorosis.
