Abstract:
Molecular marker identification has, so far, concentrated on resistance to pests and diseases but, when selecting a new apple cultivar, the breeder's primary objective is always good fruit quality.
Progenies segregating for a wide range of fruit quality attributes have been established at HRI-East Malling with the aim of identifying molecular markers that will enable the breeder to pre-select for fruit quality in juvenile seedlings.
