| Abstract:
An information system on fruit species germplasm (ISGOD) was developed using the program Visual FoxPro 3.0. This handles descriptive and evaluation data for cultivars. One hundred sweet cherry cultivars were evaluated for 35 fruit and other economic characteristics. The database records information on average values of characters for the period 1982 to 1996 and their extremes. Every accession in the database is also illustrated by a picture of fruits and the tree at harvest time. The database is supplemented by information on weather conditions during the period of observation. The program makes it possible to develop a selection index which is used in cultivar evaluation and in selection of parental cultivars for breeders. The database is available on CD-ROM. | |
