Abstract:
The service-tree (Sorbus domestica L.) is a rare species sporadically found in Serbia.
The trees are often very old and very large.
They yield fruits regularly every year, usually 200–300 kg per tree.
The fruits are very tasty and nutritious and are used in traditional medicine.
In a survey of a limited area of West and Central Serbia, rich in different species, during a 3-year period (1993–1995) 12 outstanding trees were found and identified.
Some of them are characterised by big fruits, good quality and heavy cropping (‘Loznica-2’, ‘Gornja Trepca’, ‘Topola’, ‘Parmenac’).
