Abstract:
Growth and cropping of ‘Cortland’ grafted on sixteen clones and ‘Jonagold’ grafted on nine clones of apple rootstocks bred at the Research Institute of Pomology and Floriculture were evaluated.
These rootstocks resulted from the last crossing programme made between 1976 and 1979. Approximately half of all tested clones appeared to be less vigorous than dwarfing M9 rootstock.
Trees of ‘Cortland’ grafted on clone No. 346, M9 and clone No. 509 and trees of ‘Jonagold’ grafted on clones No. 428, No. 275 and No. 280 showed the highest productivity.
Trees of ‘Cortland’ grafted on clones No. 352, No. 428 and No. 280, and ‘Jonagold’ grafted on M26 and clone No. 326 produced the largest fruits.
