Abstract:
Summer production of Chinese cabbage (Brassica campestris ssp. pekinensis) in lowlands was made possible through the successful prevention of soft-rot and virus diseases by using rain-shelters and fertilization systems that could optimize the supply of soil moisture and fertilizers, resulting in good head formation during high temperature periods.
Even cultivars bred for autumn season cropping were grown in lowlands in summer season when protected adequately.
Heads of Chinese cabbage produced under rain-shelters with a fertilization system were so free of soil particles, dust, etc. that the need for washing prior to processing for kimchi was minimized.
