Abstract:
Statice plants (Limonium sinuatum Mill) obtained from seed have a large heterogeneity for flower color, but deep blue colors demanded by the consumers are often scarce. Vegetative and reproductive buds of a selected deep blue clone, from the cultivar Midnight blue were used to establish an in vitro culture. The color stability among the micropropagated derived plants was evaluated in this study. Vitrification was solved by increasing the concentration of sucrose to 4%, agar to 0.7% and calcium pantothenate to 2 mg · 1-1. Once micropropagated, they were rooted and adapted to field conditions, together with the seed derived plants. Quantitative physiological analysis were carried out, up to the first crop peak. Characters such as accumulate dry matter, foliar area and biomass duration were measured. It was found that plants presented a similar physiological performance independently of the system of reproduction. Micropropagated plants showed a complete homogeneity at expression of flower color (Deep Blue Color 90A of the RHS Chart), as opposed to the seed derived ones.
