EFFICIENCY OF PHOSPHORENE (AS A SOURCE OF PHOSPHATE SOLUBILIZING BACTERIA) IN ENHANCING GROWTH AND P NUTRITION OF CHEMLALI OLIVE SEEDLINGS

Authors:   F. F. Ahmed, Gamal M. El-Dawwy
Abstract:
The effect of phosphate solubilizing bacteria and calcium superphosphate fertilizer on growth and P uptake of Chemlali olive seedlings was studied in pot trials in 1995 and 1996 using sandy calcareous and silty clay soils. Also, N and K uptake by the seedlings were measured. Phosphorene was utilized as the source of the P solubilizing bacteria. Applying phophorene improved growth and P uptake by the seedlings in comparison to the phosphate fertilizer alone. The effects were more pronounced in the sandy soil. No additional effect occurred when the dose of phosphorene was raised from 0.1 to 0.2%. Combining phosphorene at 0.1% with phosphate fertilizers had an incrementally beneficial effect on growth and P uptake.
