| Abstract:
An important consideration in irrigation scheduling is the stage of growth at which moisture stress occurs. For roses, the most sensitive stage to moisture stress appeared to be at petal and stamen initiation. Water stress (soil moisture tension up to -100kPa and corresponding leaf stomatal resistance up to 45 sec/cm) at those specific stages resulted in malformations of the flower buds and affected the quality of the flowering shoots. Water stress, at petal and stamen initiation, reduced stem length, fresh weight of the flowering shoots, the diameter and height of bud, and the number of well-formed petals of the flower bud. | |
