Abstract:
Growth of a sweet pepper crop by the traditional “enarenado almeriense”procedure, managed as it is commercially done in the area of Almería (SE Spain), was monitored and compared with a similar crop growing on a rockwool substrate and managed accordingly to the standard practices introduced in Almería about a decade ago for this kind of system.
Both trials were done under protected cultivation.
Results show a better water use efficiency for the rockwool trial as well as a significantly superior quality and early productivity of the harvested fruits.
On the contrary the "enarenado almeriense" substrate shows higher yield levels.
