Abstract:
Wettability of air-dried peats and pine barks was studied using a capillary rise method.
The surface energy and their polar and dispersive components of substrates was calculated from contact angle measurements with different liquids.
The results show that the surface energy is mainly due to dispersive type interactions, and that the polar component is very low for all the studied materials which explains the highly hydrophobic character of air-dried substrates.
