| Abstract:
The International Symposium on Growing Media and Hydroponics, the first ISHS symposium of the Working Group on Growing Media outside Europe, was held at the Cleary International Centre and Hilton Hotel in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, from May 19 to 26 1997. The Symposium was held jointly with the Hydroponic Society of America, the American Greenhouse Vegetable Growers Association and the Canadian Greenhouse Vegetable Crop Conference. I wish to place on record my thanks and those of many other members of ISHS to Dr. Tom Papadopoulos who undertook the immense and highly successful job of organising this joint symposium, as well as the unenviable task of collating and producing the current proceedings. The assistance of staff of the Greenhouse and Processing Crops Research Centre at Harrow was also greatly valued. The sponsorship raised by Tom Papadopoulos enabled many young scientists from around the world to attend the symposium and again, Dr. Papadopoulos deserves great credit for this initiative. These and other delegates as well as accompanying persons greatly appreciated the social programme arranged by the organising committee. Finally Dr. Papadopoulos and the committee must be warmly congratulated for the provision of 'start-up' monies to help in the initial organisation of future symposia on growing media. In short - this was a very fine conference, superbly organised. | |
