Abstract:
An adaptation trial was performed to introduce fig production to the coastal areas in the western part of Turkey and thus extend the ripening and harvest period for domestic and export markets.
Turkey is the prime producer of figs and more than two thirds of its production comes from Sanlop (=Calimyrna), the main cultivar for drying.
In order to determine the performance of some outstanding fresh fig varieties, adaptation plots were established in 1985 and 1986 in Bodrum, Fethiye and Dalaman (at two locations) townships in the Mugla province in the southwest of Turkey.
From 1990 until 1995, vegetative growth, pomological properties of fruits, bud-burst and maturation periods were determined.
Varieties with higher performance such as Bursa Black, Darpak, Beyaz Orak, Yesilgüz, Morgüz and Pathcan were found.
