Abstract:
A review of the current situation of fig (Ficus carica L.) culture and genetic resources in Tunisia was reported.
Diversity among 22 cultivars of southern arid regions was analyzed using morphometric studies.
Cultivar characterization and multivariate analysis were made on the basis of 18 physical and chemical characters of the main crop fruits.
Results showed that the fruit parameters of high discriminatory value were fruit size and shape, ostiol opening, flesh and skin thickness, titratable acidity and total soluble solids.
The study suggested that fig germplasm is diverse.
It was also possible to differentiate three cultivar groups and two distinct cultivars.
