Abstract:
From offspring investigations about crossing, realized along a varietal breeding programme (especially to find new varieties of Prune) it appeared:
For the fruit characters:
- Shape: the round character is generally dominant on the oblong character.
- Epidermis coloration: dark colouring dominates fair colouring.
- Mean weight: in the progeny, all types can appear, but the majority have fruit weight which is the middle between that of the two parents.
- Ripening time: this character varies like the fruit mean weight.
But some varieties transfer quite easily this character.
For the physiological character:
- Full bloom time: generally the progeny has a full bloom time which is the middle between that of the parents.
But when two varieties of late flowering time are crossed the majority of the progenies have a late flowering time.
- Behaviour towards Monilia laxa on flowers: the crosses realized pointed out the transmission and the dominance of the character "susceptibility to Monilia laxa on flowers and young shoots".
These conclusions have been established from examples which will be presented along.
