Abstract:
Tiprot in asparagus appears to have a physiological origin and to be genetically controlled, but the breeding for cultivars with reduced incidence of tiprot may be difficult.
Relatively small variations were found in the percentage of tiprot between the commercial cultivars UC 157 and Jersey Giant and the experimental breeding lines whose parents were selected because of high specific combining ability.
