Abstract:
Some biological characteristics of Bulgarian plum cultivars Gabrovska, Strinava, Balvanska slava and Nevena were observed in the period 1989–1996. The cultivars Gabrovska, Strinava and Balvanska slava prove moderately early blooming as is Stanley, but Nevena is late blooming.
Nevena has a longer period of blooming than Gabrovska, Strinava and Balvanska slava.
Appropriate pollinators have been found for the self-sterile cultivars Gabrovska and Nevena and this fact will make possible the elaboration of a proper plan combining various cultivars for plum orchards.
Trees of the cultivars Strinava, Balvanska slava and Nevena have moderate growth.
The crown of Gabrovska is very large.
The plum cultivars Gabrovska and Strinava are highly productive, their yields surpass the yield of Stanley, which was used as standard.
Fruits of Bulgarian cultivars investigated by the authors are large and have a relatively smaller stone, as compared to that of the cultivar Stanley.
