NEW PLUM CULTIVARS FROM HOHENHEIM

Abstract:
Plum pox virus is a serious problem in the plum production in Germany. Because of the not satisfying fruit quality of the present resistant varieties we started in the year 1980 a plum breeding program at Hohenheim. Sharka resistance tests were made in an orchard with natural infected young trees of ‘Hauszwetsche’. Over 40 % of the tested seedlings were tolerant or resistant. From over 1000 seedlings of the first breeding cycle 6 hybrids were selected as new tolerant or resistant cultivars and introduced in the last years. These new cultivars are decribed below.
