ISHS Acta Horticulturae 478: VI International Symposium on Plum and Prune Genetics, Breeding, Pomology

INHERITANCE OF SOME CHARACTERISTICS TO THE OFFSPRING AND EVALUATION OF THE GENITORS' VALUE FOR PLUM

Author:   M. Botu
Keywords:   heritability, genitor's value, plum genotype
Abstract:
A number of 6 hybrid combinations and their offspring were studied for evaluation of the genitors and the transmission capacity of some characteristics.

The Romanian cultivar Tuleu gras which is male-sterile was used as the maternal genitor in all combinations because of its superior agronomical characteristics. The paternal genitors are different (Agen 707, Blue Fre, Silvia and some complex hybrids).

The characters' analysis referred to the plant vigor, plant habit, type of fruiting, fruit shape, color, stone adherence, harvest maturity, etc..

The variance analysis (estimated - s2 and random variance - delta2) and heritability to the half SIB offspring emphasized that there is a large variability for the studied characteristics concerning the components' values (genotypic variance, environmental variance, additive variance).

The male-sterility of the Tuleu gras cultivar is transmitted to the whole offspring, no matter of the hybrid combinations.

The plant habit was inherited by the offspring (H2 = 60.0 and h2 = 28.7), but the specific characteristic of the Tuleu gras cultivar which has a natural tendency of branch breaking due to the insertion angle is absent to the offspring.
