PLUM PRODUCTION IN POLAND

Abstract:
Yearly, around 100 000 t of plums and prunes are produced in Poland. About 40% of this production are delivered to the market. Majority out of 9 millions of fruiting plum trees are grown in extensive orchards or in home gardens. Fruit processing industry uses a small quantity of fruits mostly for canning and freezing. For this purpose prunes are preferred than plums. Such preference is determined by fruit diameter that should not be larger than 3,0 – 3,5 cm. Plum growing area in Poland, the most important varieties, rootstocks, the utilization of fruits, training systems and planting distances are described.
