ISHS Acta Horticulturae 477: IV International Symposium on Replant Problems

REPLANT PROBLEMS IN STRAWBERRY PRODUCTION

Authors:   A. Laszlovszky-Zmarlicka, G. Cieslinski, K. Smolarz
Abstract:
The fact that many cultivars have lower yields when grown on the same fields for many years is well known. Pathogenic soil factors may cause big losses in strawberry production. Usually they influence the yield and the size of the plants. Chemical fumigant treatments, or a few year breaks are advised to prevent that damage.

The experiments were carried out in 1991 on a field where strawberries were planted since 1986. The field was divided into four slots: the first with chemical treatments with Basamid 400 kg/ha, the second with organic fertilization (manure 50 tones/ha), the third with a combination of both Basamid and manure with the same doses and control.

The results showed that for strawberry cultivation in the same place, the best treatment was Basamid followed by control. The manure fertilizations have a negative impact on strawberry plantations grown for many years on the same field.
