Abstract:
Glucona by manufactures ingredients for the pharmaceutical industry from starch. One of the starch derivatives that is produced is calcium-gluconate. Process engineers of Glucona were researching the possibility of optimising the calcium-gluconate production process by adjusting the centrifuge process, which is the bottleneck of the plant. Glucona has asked Vertis by to calculate the mass balances of the calcium-gluconate plant. Vertis has constructed a model of the plant using Aspen+. The model and the simulation results are discussed. The simulation results confirmed/founded the ideas of the process engineers: the calcium-gluconate production can be optimised by decreasing the washing period during the centrifuge process.
