MORPHOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF SEEDS GROWN IN THE FRUITS OF PEAR CULTIVARS

Authors:   E. Dibuz, M. Soltész, J. Nyéki
Abstract:
The number and distribution of the seeds set in the pear fruit have a decisive influence on the size and the form of the fruit. Morphology of the seeds may facilitate the determination of the variety. For that purpose the seeds of 120 pear varieties have been studied and the results served as a base to develop a system of pear varieties. The properties of the seed are grouped into quantitative, i.e. size, length, breadth, whereas morphology traits, e.g. blunt, oval, tapering, very pointed, and color after having been dried, e.g. light red, orange, yellow-brown, light brown, brown, dark brown, black-brown.
