ISHS Acta Horticulturae 475: VII International Symposium on Pear Growing

THE MAIN CHARACTERISTICS OF THE BLOOM TIME OF PEAR CULTIVARS IN HUNGARY

Authors:   M. Soltész, J. Iváncsics, T. Szabó, J. Nyéki, Z. Szabó

Abstract:
Blooming time of many pear varieties has been registered through several years at 5 growing sites of different ecological conditions. Internationally known as well as Hungarian local varieties were comprised in the sample. The body of data allows the analysis of the factors affecting the relative time of individual varieties because a considerable variation was stated depending on season and on the site at the same variety. In the characterization of blooming time of individual varieties, the relative blooming order or the assignment of the variety to a blooming time group is the sole reliable possibility. Those are stable traits of the variety. For the purpose of planning safe associations of inter-compatible varieties in plantings sites, one has to consider their belonging to blooming groups. Four groups have been established for conditions prevailing in Hungary. Some varieties were unstable in their blooming time (e.g. Doyenné d'Hiver, Curé, Mme Favre, Beurré Diel), so they need more time for being characterized.
