Authors:   T. Deckers, E. Daemen
Keywords:   Pear cultivars, parthenocarpic fruitset, bacterial diseases
Abstract:
Pear growing in Belgium is increasing in area during the last 5 years with Conference as the main pear cultivar. The experiences with different quince rootstocks are discussed. Gibberellin treatments with GA3 and GA4/7 or mixtures are not only important for fruit set after frost, but can also improve the early fertility of young pear trees from the second year after planting. Some aspects of pear tree training and flower bud quality are discussed. The impact of two important bacterial diseases Pseudomonas syringae pv. syringae and fire blight (Erwinia amylovora) on pear growing is discussed in this paper.
