ISHS Acta Horticulturae 475: VII International Symposium on Pear Growing

TYPES OF BLOOMING SEQUENCE OF FLOWERS IN THE INFLORESCENCE OF PEAR VARIETIES

Author:   E. Dibuz
Keywords:   anthesis, inflorescence, side-inflorescence
Abstract:
Structure of the inflorescences and the blooming sequence of flowers within the inflorescence have been studied in an assortment of pear varieties. In the major part of varieties (61%), the sequence of blooming was centripetal (beginning with the first flowers of the raceme), whereas in 23 %, the sequence followed a centrifugal order. A divergent type of blooming was characteristic for 16% of the varieties. There was a tight connection between the blooming sequence and the number of flowers per inflorescence as well as the occurrence or frequency of side-inflorescences.
