Abstract:
Pear breeding work at the Fruit and Grape Research Centre in Cacak started in 1950 with the aim of developing cultivars superior to the existing ones, belonging to the two ripening groups: early summer cultivars and winter cultivars having long shelf-life.
The cultivars in both groups should bear fruit of high quality, satisfactory size, shape and taste, and good biochemical properties.
To develop quality pear cultivars of early ripening season, the cv.
Butirra Precoce Morettini was crossed in 1985 with 4 other cultivars and 2 hybrids.
Out of 6 combinations, a total of 1108 seedlings were obtained, out of which positive hybrids were selected after 6 years, starting from 1993. Up to now, more than 20 hybrids have been singled out.
A short account of the 4 superior hybrids will be given in this paper, as follows: I/14, VI/30, I/16 and V/15.
