Abstract:
The 'Carolea' is self-incompatible, and difficulties in fertilization often lead to low fruit set, low yield and, consequently, to alternate bearing.
This research evaluates the possibilty of increasing fruit set by treating the trees in a variety of ways: A - with an organic, experimental hormone stimulant, obtained naturally from a mixture of auxinic substances (the biostimulant Nutralle); B - with urea, a nutritive; C - with sulpher, an inert agent; D - with water (the control).
Results show that, in trees treated with auxinic substances, there is a statistically significant increase in fruit set, but that fruit drop is also greater, probably due to self regulation of the plant.
Furthermore, results also show that inert agents are also useful in improving impollination and, consequently, fertilization.
