Abstract:
The blooming period and self-fruitfulness or unfruitfulness in twelve Greek and three foreign olive cultivars were studied.
The duration of the blooming period was 6–7 days. «Vasilikada», «Lianolia Kerkiras» and «Kalamon» flower at the same time.
The same also applies to «Chondrolia Chalkidikis», «Karydolia», «Koroneiki», «Frantoio», «Patrini» and «Adramitini». The latest to bloom were «Vasilikada», «Lianolia Kerkiras» and «Kalamon». The percentage of perfect flowers was very high in «Kalamon» and «Adramitini» and low in «Vasilikada». The number of flowers per inflorescence ranged between 16 (Chondrolia Chalkidikis) to 44 (Lianolia Kerkiras). The lowest percentage of perfect flowers was recorded on the northern side of the tree and in the top of the shoots and the highest in the southern side and in the middle of each flowering shoot.
Among the six cultivars tested «Adramitini», «Cordal» and «Kothreiki» were self-fruitfull, while «Chondrolia Chalkidikis», «Karydolia» and «Manzanillo» were partially self-unfruitful.
