Abstract:
‘Mastoides’ olive trees were sprayed with 1250 ppm (single application) and 625 ppm (three times-repeated every 10 days) ethephon during fruit maturation at three harvest periods.
The increase of the fruit drop (FD) and the leaf drop (LD) rates, and the decrease of the fruit removal force were enhanced by the advancement of maturation stage and found to be proportional to the applied ethephon concentrations independently of the application mode.
The enhancement of these trends was more marked in the single spray treatment in shorter time.
The LD did not exceed 25% in most of the cases.
All fruit dropped naturally after the second harvest period. ‘Mastoides’ olive fruit harvest may be facilitated using ethephon from the beginning of the harvest period.
