Abstract:
A new cultivar resistant to Spilocea oleagina has been selected from the selfed F1 progeny of a semi resistant seedling probably of Chimlali.
The selfed hybrids were monitored over a period of 15 years.
The Spilocaea resistance based on population genetics seems to be of recesive nature.
The new cultivar ‘Maalot’ is a medium vigorous somewhat droopy tree.
The fruit is small (2 g) elongated with a commercial oil content (under irrigation) of 20–22% in fresh weight.
The average yield for 8 years was about 32 kg per tree.
