Abstract:
A new highly lime tolerant rootstock hybrid was developed in the frame of a grape-rootstock breeding program. The program was investigated at the beginning of 1970's with the aim to develop a lime tolerant variety in order to keep all of the necessary cultural characteristics. To obtain our aims, we used the V. berlandieri x V. riparia T.K. 5BB, a good lime-tolerant variety, for crossing and a V. vinifera pollen mixture to increase this characteristics, and to get better compatibility, affinity and rooting ability. The level of the lime-tolerance of the new hybrid was examined in a laboratory experiments and in field trials. The drought-tolerance was the secondary result of our examinations through the indirect production survey. Georgikon 28, the new rootstock hybrid resulted in higher lime tolerance than the V. berlandieri x V. riparia hybrids and more productive than generally used varieties.
