Abstract:
Until 1970, the viticulture of Serbia was dominated by more or less autochtone varieties for white and red wines.
Later on, the list of varieties was revived and improved.
It started with an introduction of varieties and clones for the production of quality wines.
A special role in these activities can be attributed to the white wines.
One could observe a mass expansion of varieties such as: Riesling Italian, Riesling white, Burgundy white, Chardonnay, Semillon, Sauvignon white etc.
For the production of red wines a mass expansion took place of varieties such as: Burgundy black, Gamay black, Cabernet sauvignon, Cabernet franc, Merlot, Franconien etc.
Special attention was paid to the clones of these varieties.
Also 12 new Yugoslav varieties for white and red wines were created.
