ISHS Acta Horticulturae 472: XVII International Symposium Virus and Virus-Like Diseases of Temperate Fruit Crops

NON-TRANSMISSION OF APPLE SCAR SKIN VIROID AND PEACH LATENT MOSAIC VIROID THROUGH SEED

Authors:   W.E. Howell, L.J. Skrzeczkowski, G.I. Mink, A. Nunez, T. Wessels
Keywords:   Malus domestica, Prunus persica
Abstract:
Apple seed collected from fruit affected by any of four isolates of apple scar skin viroid (ASSVd) produced seedlings free of ASSVd. Similarly, seed obtained from peach latent mosaic viroid (PLMVd)-infected peach trees produced seedlings free of PLMVd. The tests involved over 400 apple and 500 peach seedlings produced from seed collected in two growing seasons from each of the five seed sources. Both viroids, however, are seed borne.
