Abstract:
Stone fruit trees were surveyed for the presence of virus and virus-like diseases in the eastern Mediterranean area of Turkey. The main observed symptoms of different viruses were dwarfing, shortened internodes, bushy shoots, necrotic and chlorotic spots on leaves, yellowing, line pattern, vein banding and fruit deformation in all provinces surveyed. Viruses identified were prunus necrotic ring spot virus (PNRSV), prune dwarf virus (PDV), apple mosaic virus (ApMV) and apple chlorotic leaf spot virus (ACLSV). ELISA tests showed that 28.4 % of 476 stone fruit trees individually checked were infected with one or more viruses. The most common virus was ApMV, which had a mean infection rate of 22. 2 %. It was followed by PNRSV, PDV and ACLSV with a mean infection rate of 17.1%, 15.5 %, and 13.3 %, respectively. Plum pox virus was not detected in all of the tested samples.
