Abstract:
The genetic control of plum pox potyvirus (PPV) is of great importance in PPV control because of the insufficient effects of the virus preventive measures.
In 1987 we started a breeding program for PPV-resistance in plums in Moldova.
It involves the creation, replenishment and practical use of tolerant and resistant nuclear stock.
Moldovan nuclear stocks of tolerant and resistant varieties and hybrids were planted in 1997 after screening from the Moldovan plum assortment and evaluation for PPV-resistance on natural and artificial backgrounds.
Plum cultivars with different levels of PPV-resistance have been used for crossings from 1989 to 1991. Analysis of the heritability of PPV-resistance in plum hybrids was carried out from 1996 to 1997. The significant advantage of obtaining PPV-resistant hybrids from maternal stock was shown using two factor dispersion analysis.
