Abstract:
Plums transformed with the coat protein (CP) genes of the plum pox (PPV) and the papaya ringspot (PRSV) potyviruses were inoculated with PPV BT (Barthelassc) D serotype isolate under controlled greenhouse conditions using Myzus persicae Sultzer aphid vectors.
The majority of plants tested were initially infected with PPV, those that were not infected were reinoculated.
Of the 15 clones tested (11 transformed with the PPV CP gene, 2 with the PRSV CP gene and 2 control plants) only the PPV-CP transgenic clone C-5 remained uninfected.
