Abstract:
This paper reports the detection of an isolate of PPV in apricot trees grown in El Amar, Egypt. The naturally infected trees exhibited symptoms characteristic of PPV. Host range studies and electron microscopic analysis of the purified virus also confirmed the presence of particles similar to that of potyviruses. Gel electrophoretic analysis of the virus capsid and virus nucleic acid also revealed that the virus being studied possesses characteristics of potyviruses. An antiserum of high titer was prepared using the purified virus. Cytopathologic studies also revealed the presence of pin wheel and laminated inclusions in the infected cells.
