DETERMINATION OF THE MOST SUITABLE TOTAL TEMPERATURE AND HARVEST TIME OF SOME PISTACHIO CULTIVARS

Authors:   H. Seyfettin Atli, S. Arpaci, H. Tekin, A. Yaman
Keywords:   Harvesting, Total Temperature, Quality, Gaziantep
Abstract:
This study was carried out to determine the degree-day requirement and most suitable time of harvesting for different pistachio cultivars grown in Gaziantep, Turkey. Nut weight, splitting percentage, and total fat content of the nuts were determined at five different times. While bloom date was similar in all the cultivars observed, developmental periods of differing length were observed for the various cultivars. Optimal harvest time was 3607 DD (day-degree °C after full bloom) for Kirmizi, 3797 DD for Uzun, 4106 DD for Siirt and Ohadi and 4405 DD for Kallahghochi.
