DETERMINATION OF THE BEST SUITABLE GRAFTING METHOD ON DIFFERENT PISTACHIO ROOTSTOCKS

Authors:   S. Arpaci, O. Aksu, H. Tekin
Keywords:   Seedling, Budding, Bud Take, Rootstocks, Gaziantep
Abstract:
This study was done to determine the best time for budding pistachio seedlings in Gaziantep, Turkey. From 1992 to 1996, Pistacia vera, Pistacia khinjuk and Pistacia atlantica rootstocks were budded in the spring, summer and early autumn. Chip budding, T-budding, down-T budding and pipe budding were performed. The highest budding success rate was attained with Pistacia vera rootstocks. In early autumn, chip budding performed better than other methods. In June, T and down-T budding was most successful. However, the method of budding had no effect on seedling growth after budding. Pistacia atlantica seedlings had the best growth and P. vera seedlings grew the least. No interactions between rootstock species and budding method were observed.
