Abstract:
The goal of new plant introduction is to successfully establish a crop not previously grown in an area.
Pistachios are a prime example of a recent success.
They progressed from a crop of negligible value in 1976 to a value of 161.5 million dollars in 1993 (Table 1). How this was achieved is a model of public and private section cooperation in agricultural research and development.
