MORPHOLOGY OF POLLEN GRAINS AS AN INDEX FOR IDENTIFICATION OF LOCAL IRANIAN ALMOND VARIETIES

Authors:   A. Talaie, A. Imani
Abstract:
The pollen grain morphology of 10 Iranian almond varieties, collected from the Mianeh area, was examined by scanning electronic microscope. This study revealed that the overall shape of almond pollen grains ranged from round to elliptical, with a tendency toward elliptical form. The diameter and length of pollen grains of different varieties were respectively 30 to 34 and 50 to 60 microns. The sculpting features (exine) varied between varieties.
