| Abstract:
Vigour, measured as trunk diameter, was evaluated in 1,336 five-year-old pistachio seedlings. The seedlings were derived from 16 controlled crosses between 7 female and 9 male cultivars made at IRTA-Mas Bové. Among these 1,336 seedlings, 873 (15 progenies) were planted at random in a plot to statistically compare progenies for some important characteristics. Significant differences between families were observed. ‘Mateur’ x ‘Túnez’, ‘Mateur’ x ‘C’ and ‘Batoury’ x ‘C’ were promising, producing a high percentage of vigourous seedlings. In contrast, progenies ‘Larnaka’ x ‘Nazar’, ‘Larnaka’ x ‘M-38’, ‘Larnaka’ x ‘M-502’ and ‘Sfax’ x ‘M-502’, showed less vigour. Seedlings derived from ‘Mateur’ as a female parent were more vigorous than seedlings from ‘Aegina’, ‘Ouleimy’ and ‘Larnaka’. Male ‘C’ showed promise as a parent. | |
