ISHS Acta Horticulturae 47: II International Symposium on Flower Bulbs

STUDIES ON THE POSSIBILITY OF DELAYING FLOWERING OF TULIP

Author:   M. Le Nard
Abstract:
The behaviour of a tulip bulb after storage at 2°C depends on the physiological state of the bulb at the start of storage. Bulbs of late cultivars lifted before they were mature and immediately placed into 2°C were stored for 6 months at this temperature, before storage for 2 weeks at 30°C. At the end of this treatment, the bulbs differentiated normal flowers at 20°C. In this way it is possible to obtain flowering more than 15 months after bulb lifting.
