Abstract:
In the Netherlands, the forcing of Lilium "Enchantment" in the winter period is impeded by the occurrence of flower-bud abscission and blasting.
Higher temperatures in the glasshouse promote bud abscission, but the light factor is crucial.
The flower buds are most likely to undergo abscission at a bud length of about 1.0 to 3 cm.
On the basis of a temperature-programmed forcing period and an obligatory period of supplementary illumination, a schedule can be made for additional lighting for several sets of lilies during forcing in the winter period.
