Abstract:
The influence on growth of 10°, 15.5° or 21°C pretreatments for 2 weeks was dependent on harvest date and whether bulbs were given 0 or 6 weeks of 4.5°C. Shoot emergence from non-cooled bulbs was increased by vacuum infusion and injections of gibberellic acid (GA3), while (RS)-abscisic acid (ABA) delayed emergence.
Neither GA3 or ABA infusions influenced the flowering rate.
Injections of GA3 or 7 enhanced flowering of cooled bulbs, while GA3, 4, or7 increased stem elongation.
Injections of ABA delayed flowering and reduced plant height.
Bioassays revealed that during storage GA activity did not increase, ABA activity decreased, and both increased afterwards.
