Abstract:
The effect of low-temperature treatment of tulip bulbs for early forcing was investigated.
The results showed that both the standard treatment of "five-degree tulips" (17°C for two weeks + 5°C for nine weeks) and the standard treatment in Japan (15°C for two weeks + 2°C for seven to eight weeks) resulted in earlier flowering and better quality flowers.
However, the temperature optimum for early flowering fell from 5°C to 2°C without any reduction of flower quality when the duration of low-temperature treatment was short and the degree of flower development was advanced at the start of low-temperature treatment in cvs. "Paul Richter" and "William Pitt".
